Shri Guru Amar Das Ji

Guru Amar Das Ji (1479–1574) was the third Sikh Guru, known for strengthening Sikhism and promoting social equality. Born in Basarke, Punjab, he became Guru at the age of 73. He abolished caste-based discrimination, established the Langar (community kitchen) as a symbol of equality, and empowered women by rejecting practices like Sati and Purdah. Guru Amar Das also introduced the Anand Karaj (Sikh marriage ceremony) and expanded Sikh institutions by setting up 22 administrative centers (Manjis). His teachings emphasized humility, devotion, and selfless service. He appointed Guru Ram Das as his successor, ensuring the growth of Sikhism.
